Here is my collection of links to programs that I think are useful or simply nice. All the links are opened in a new window. |
![]() XnView |
XnView is a perfect pictures viewer (my favorite). Though it is sometimes difficult in set-up, it works just fine and is rather user-friendly. XnView is a freeware program, so use it free of charge for viewing pictures you've downloaded with Picture Pump :) The program is shipped with a pack of languages for its interface - you'll appreciate this feature if English is not your native language. Also, you can use XnView as a plugin to Total Commander (see below) to view pictures in its file viewer! XnView knows more than 400 graphic formats, and has an extensive lot of features (such as application of filters to the pictures, which closely resembles Adobe Photoshop). A must-have, I assure you. The only drawback, to my mind, is that while you look at one picture, the next one is not being precached - or maybe I'm just too naughty? Yeah, one more thing - the interface is sometimes a bit clumsy... |
![]() IrfanView |
Yet another pictures viewer. Can be used as a plugin to Total Commander, too. A good viewer, to my mind - easy, fast, and simple :) You can download IrfanView here. |
![]() ACDSee |
ACDSee is, no doubt, a classic pictures viewer. It knows hundreds of graphic formats. Easy to use. Latest versions have lots of useful (and not so useful) features. All in all, there's everything in it, and even more. The only thing that is not superb about it is the price: full version 4.0 is $49.95 (a bit abridged ACDSee Classic is $35.95). Can be localized into several languages (not too many, though). Download a trial version from ACD Systems' site. |
![]() Total Commander |
The perfect successor of the notorious Norton Commander. This file manager runs in graphic mode, that allows you to view pictures and icons in its file panels and internal lister, show filenames in different colors, change fonts, adjust widths of file panels, etc. This program was formerly known as Windows Commander, but the owners of the Windows trademark showed their concern in the matter. So the program changed name to Total Commander. The program possesses wealth of functions, and if you are using it, you can safely forget there's such thing as Explorer in Windows. :). Total Commander has commands not only for handling files on your disks, but also a built-in FTP client, support for different archives (namely, ZIP, RAR, ARJ, and... mmmm... and some more archives). Yup, there's a bad news, too: Total Commander has no built-in text editor of its own (only lister), and uses Windows Notepad by default (oh what a disgrace)... Total Commander is a shareware program. Its registration costs 40 Swiss Francs (US $30). Download a trial version of Total Commander here. |
![]() Slide Show |
Quite nifty screensaver that can make a real slide-show out of the megabytes of pictures you've just downloaded :) You can change the effects it uses when replacing one picture with the next one, the delay between the changes, etc. Yeah, drawbacks: awful English used everywhere, and - the main part - its price ($12). Still, it is fun using even its trial version - not too limited one, if you ask me. Download a trial version here. |
![]() Teleport Pro |
This is definitely the best tool for site mirroring. I tried several offline browsers in my life, but this one is - yeah, simply the best. Registration for Teleport Pro is $39.95, but - it's worth it. Download a trial version here. |
